Michael Garman 3D Cityscape

The closer you look, the bigger it becomes.

Installed after The Ranch expanded in 1983, the cityscape recreates a gritty American neighborhood alive with quiet conversations, newspaper readers, storefronts and tiny pieces of everyday life.

Mirrors and carefully placed lighting make alleyways only inches deep appear to stretch for several feet. Look through a window and the same illusion of depth continues inside.

Meticulous detail

Miniature bottles, cans, furniture, brickwork and storefronts reward patient viewers.

Local touches

More than a dozen Fairmont business logos were woven into the original design.

Hidden signature

Michael Garman concealed his signature in the ornate stonework above the White Owl Cafe.

You can look at this wall for an hour and come back later and see something you never saw before.
